With 6 novels to write in a year, I know I'll need to adopt a few plots and subplots. So I thought this might be a good idea to get started.
Here's one to start the discussion: Family moves into a small town to get away from the big city life and raise their kids in the small town environment. Buys house unseen (great deal because it needs a little work). House is huanted.

I like this plot. I may have to pinch this with a little tweaking.
Hmm... something to leave...
Three sisters called Faith, Hope and Charity are living in a flat in the city together. One sister goes mysteriously missing. No note, phone calls nothing. The other two start to try to track her down but things get much more mysterious

Here's a fantasy one I did use in July in 2009, but didn't finish and won't. This could be tweeked for something else if someone wants it.
Woman moved into regligious order because her mom was leaving an abusive husband. Daughter grew up and become a religious warrior. She is searching for the sword stollen from the order. Has a lead on it and leaves to find it. Sword has magic and other spells to accompany it. Only the Order knows how to use it.
That's as far as I got. I couldn't even think of a name for the "religious order", so you're on your own there. You can add other things, dragons, help from a "friend", etc.

Thought of another one after I got my change back from my lunch (yes I'm trying to think of tons).
MC cashier and counts till at end of day. Finds a unique coin. Was a busy day and didn't notice. Maybe looks like another coin or thought it was some weird foriegn coin but just accepted it to move the line along. Pockets it to check it out later.
Several options with this:
- Sells it and plot is what happens after MC has the money (maybe lots)
- Bad guys after it and the MC now
- Good luck comes to the MC who has the coin. Maybe at the end of the novel the MC passes it along for someone else to have good luck too.

MC keeps a blog about something and the reader follows along. Maybe the character writes a novel in 30 days and instead of visting a board (like we do here) writes in the blog their frustrations and triumphs. Maybe the MC starts a diet. Maybe the MC writes their new years resolutions and keeps the update on the blog.
You could even use just a paper journal for the MC instead of a blog. But the blog allows for comments and communication between the MC and the outside world beyond their own. Especially if they're keeping it a secret from others.

Re-gifting was on Dr. Phil and a radio station these last two days. So I thought of this plot idea.
It's an object oriented plot and probably is more prone to a bunch of short stories but could be a novel.
One gift is regifted. For a novel it could be between family members, even mailed long distance. Each Christmas (or other celebration) this gift is sent on. Then that family is the main characters of the novel.
For short stories this gift could be given to various people.
How about a white elephant gift? This could make it fun for who to give it to. And the characters who receive it.
Another idea on the gift giving. How about a family heirloom passed down through generations? Write about why it's passed down and who recieves it and what they do with it, etc.

PLOT IDEA
Just thought of this because of 2 instances.
Cell phone that dials on voice activation. MC receives call and hears what they're saying. Some options. Maybe a murder. Or maybe it's the MC's boss. A plot to take over the world. A friend having an affair. A spouse having an affair. A friend and spouse fighting and friend ends up missing.
I thought of this because my coworkers hubby just got a new work cell phone and it was dailing her. And my friend just texted me: Sorry if my phone keeps call u. It is voice activated and I'm at the mall. Everytime santa says "ho ho ho", it dails ur number. lol I think she sent it to others too. [hey another holiday story... ]

A rich busineswoman (or man) searches for the gifts she didn't receive at Christmas when she was a young girl. The story follows her searching, the people she mets and if she's not "retired" her business. Maybe her business can help her find the gifts.

Rich businesswoman (or man) worked too hard and has no family left. Decides to help others connect with their family to fill that void.

Okay an evil plot for those who want one... Rich businesswoman (or man) tries to take over all the businesses or put them out of business. These businesses are owned by people who tormented her as a child/teen/early adult. Takes no prisoners.

Rich businesswoman (or man) decide to work part time or retire. Travels. Finds ways to help people that has nothing to do with money. Even though she could help out financially, she actually helps them out in different ways.

Last night (about 1am) I had some plot bunny visit me. They actually included bunnies ;D hey it was 1am or so... But this one seemed like the best idea.
Little girl kidnapped. Drops her bunny when she is kidnapped. Each time a tip is received and it turns out correct, when they arrive at the place a bunny is found. Little girl leaving bunnies as clues to find her. She is given bunnies to stay calm.
