about you: About me? I love to read and write, I've moved extensively, lived many places. I enjoy talking with people. I was five years old when I read my first novel, "A Wizard on 32nd Street" - I think that's the title. I've held many jobs before the Air Force, including Massage Therapy working in the rehab department of a hospital. I found out a couple of years ago I should buy stock in book stores, I can read a novel in a day! *yikes!* I love to help people. I enjoy doing research. I'm a bit crazy, it earned me the nickname Mad Max while I was in the service. I just want to know where MY thunder dome is.

current novel title: Dark Nothings
current novel genre: Paranormal Romance
current novel summary: I'll add that in a while
current novel excerpt:
This is just a rough no editing. Opening scene:
"Hey Mabon, thanks for meetin' me. Heard you're leavin' us." Tech Sergent Hunt strides up to Staff Sergeant Sophia Mabon who is standing off to the side.
"Yes. Unfortunately." She surveys the uniformed figures around her.
"Why?"
"I've been reassigned." She shifts her weight. "I'm supposed to go home and wait until I'm called up. How screwy is this? What active duty Security Forces soldier is told to pack up, go home, and wait?"
"That is odd. None that I know of."
"I was told to expect at least two weeks leave until I'm called up. Funny thing, I'm supposed to re-up in two weeks."
"Can't you re-up now?"
Sophie shakes her head, "I tried, but a lieutenant major shot that down with a note in my files."
"[censored], what is going on?" He shakes his head. "You want a drink?" Hunt smiles.
"Yeah, I think I need one. Jack straight." Hunt wades to the bar and grabs a beer and her whiskey.
Returning he nods to a table, "Let's grab that table before anyone else commandeers it."
"Alright." Sitting down she puts her back to the wall.
"Still shaky after coming back?"
"No just cautious, too many close calls."
Hunt laughs, "Everyone has close calls when they're deployed." He shakes his head. "But some of the stories your men tell... You guys should have been wiped out. Hell, Mabon, you're becoming a legend."
"Yeah right, that makes sense. they are pulling my butt out of where I actually belong and sending me home. Who's going to be taking care of my men when I'm gone?" She downs her Jack in one go.
"They will find someone." Hunt leans forward, "What are you going to do with that two weeks of leave?"
"Probably worry myself sick over you guys."
Laughing Hunt shakes his head, "Another Jack?"
Sophie nods and he flags down a waitress.
"Other than that, Mabon."
"Drive my brother crazy, chase the cattle and horses around the fields, go insane."
"You could try to date, I haven't seen or heard of you doing that before."
Sophie squirms in her seat under his direct gaze, "That's because I don't. I scare men. I want something more. Besides how many men or women for that matter understand the need to protect, to go to war, to be with your brothers and sisters in arms. The Air Force has been the biggest and best family I've had. I'm afraid of losing that. I'm scared to death of becoming a civilian."
"Really? How do you manage that?"
"I... crap, Hunt. I'm a wingman that's all I'm good for."
"That's because you haven't given the rest of the world a chance. You may find someone out of uniform who can be your wingman. A person who will have your back."
"Yeah, the only one I know of is my brother. That's because we went through hell together at the orphanage."
"Mabon, try, go out, find some friends. Don't throw up walls. Most people aren't out to hurt you."
"I know. This is the only place I've felt that, though. Ironic, huh?" A sad smile pulls at her mouth.
The waitress returns with their order and plunks it down on the table.
"I feel useful here, like I belong, that I'm doing something that makes a difference."
"But what happens when you serve out your years and have to go back to the civilian world anyway?"
"I join the American Legion and sit around with the other fogies, telling stories."
"Why don't you join when you get back? Might find someone interesting. So, when are you heading out?"
"Tomorrow, I fly out."
"Need a ride?"
"No, they're sending a lift for me."
"Hey Mad Mab! We were looking for you." A young Airman First Class pushes his way through the crush followed by six others.
"Hi, guys. What's going on?"
"Sergent we know you're heading out tomorrow." A1C Jones' hazel eyes lock on hers, "So me and the guys, got together and bought you this." He pulls a two pack of disposable cameras out of his BDU leg pocket. "We've got more of them." The men behind him nod. "Sergent, your mission tonight is to have fun and as your detail tonight we fully accept the duties required to accomplish this mission of utmost importance." A rakish grin causes his eyes to glitter.
Mabon's eyes widen for a split second before her military bearing slams back into place. Hunt grins at her, "As ranking Sergent at this table I fully authorize your mission, men. And will render aid as necessary."
"Crap, I've been out maneuvered." Her green eyes skewer Hunt, "This is why you invited me out, isn't it?"
He raises his hands in defense, "Guilty, the guys asked me to earlier today."
Mabon downs her second Jack, "Alright, let's see what you've got planned." The men give a loud whoop and usher her out to the dance floor.
